“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last.” John 15:16
Everyone is called by God in a general sense to love him and have a relationship with him. But what about your particular calling? What has God called you to do specifically, using your God-given passions and gifts?
In January, the entire Edify team traveled to Ghana for our annual team meeting. Each year, the Edify team (now around 60 staff in 10 different countries!) gathers together to encourage and build each other up as one team. This is a rare blessing that for an entire week, as global brothers and sisters, we are together in one place for fellowship, learning, worshipping God, strategizing and praying. This being my first meeting, I wasn’t sure what to expect. However, it immediately felt like a gathering of family.
After taking some time to reflect on the retreat, I truly believe it was such a powerful and intimate experience because each of us has individually obeyed God’s call on his or her life, specifically with Edify. First, we have all accepted the gift of salvation in Jesus Christ, and in turn been transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2) to live and serve others, not ourselves. Second, we have obeyed him by joining the Edify team when He led us to do so.
On the last night of our retreat, we held a commissioning service for all of the new team members who have joined the Edify team since last year’s retreat. Over twenty of us gathered in the front of the room and we were each given the opportunity to share how we felt led to join the Edify family. It is remarkable to see how God has worked in each person’s life to bring us all together to serve Him through the work of Edify, from working directly in the schools with school owners or students to working in our Operations and Development teams in the United States.
At Edify, we work daily to improve and expand sustainable, Christ-centered education globally, which then transforms lives and communities. And while we spend most of the year in our own countries, it is important to pause and remember who we are in Christ and why we work at Edify. In doing so we get a glimpse of what is described in Revelation 7:9-10:
“After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, ‘Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!’”
May you pursue your calling, because when you do, work doesn’t feel like work but worship.

Each month, Edify’s Christian Transformation Officers from the countries we work in around the globe will continue reflecting on how God transforms our lives when we choose to follow him. Stay tuned.
