September Reflection Email Header

This month, Dorcas Adwoa Aidoo, Ghana’s Education Officer, discusses the Edify Core Value: Best Idea Wins! She discusses how this core value has shaped the Edify environment of inclusion and belonging in the Edify family.  Over the past few months, our staff has been sharing their heart and “reflections” on the Edify core values and why they are so important to us. Last reflection, our Dominican Republic Country Director discussed the Core Value: Be joyful, be thankful, and have fun!

There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3:28

On my first day at the Edify Ghana office as a new recruit, I saw Edify’s Core Values boldly written and posted on the wall. One that caught my eye was: ‘Best Idea Wins’!

As I pondered over the possible meaning of ‘Best Idea Wins’ in the Edify context, I could not help but imagine competition and was confused about how staff might be trying to out-do one another.

However, as my days of service in Edify turned into months and I had more opportunities to engage, serve and have fellowship with my team members across the globe, Philippians 2:3-4 came to mind when I reflected upon this core value.

The verse says, “Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others”.

As a Christ-centered organization, Edify  seeks to create a godly environment of love, discipline and development where employees, partners and others feel empowered to be innovative, creative and respect one another’s ideas. Consequently, there is a great sense of responsibility and belonging, because, each staff member feels like they are part of something meaningful irrespective of one’s status.  This is evident in staff enthusiasm to embrace excellence and be accountable to one another.

‘For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them…’ Ephesians 2:10

One way that I see Edify live out this core value – ‘Best Idea Wins’; is the regular practice of local and global staff meetings, in-country check-in meetings with implementing partners as well as partner schools’ leaders.  These engagements create golden opportunities for us to share and acquire ideas. We share how to best help our partners to achieve our joint goals of advancing the great commission through Christ-centered quality education. This practice has improved our work over the years because we celebrate and implement the best ideas that are shared!

Hebrews 10:24- 25 says, “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the day drawing near.”

Our hope is to encourage each other, build each other up, and point more people to Christ! At Edify, our doors are open for the best ideas that will help achieve the mission of improving and expanding sustainable, affordable Christ-centered education in the developing world. God Bless You!
